With the dog days of summer creeping into Coffee County, the pop of pads and
plastic takes form on the heated, dry practice fields that both the big guys
and little guys play on.
Pop Warner practices began this week under the direction of a new board and
a new attitude.
Part of that attitude is a thankful group that has praise for one local
doctor who has been donating his time and money to the league.
It's no secret that Dr. Jay Trussler is a sports fan. But more than that, he
has a passion for putting his money where his mouth is – especially when it
comes to helping the kids in this community.
Trussler donated nearly all of the proceeds to the local league that he
collected for physicals from more than 100 players. At $25 a pop, the math
is pretty generous.
League president Tanya Amis said the money goes along way toward making a
great season for both the players, and cheerleaders.
"We are really grateful to Dr. Jay for his commitment and support," Amis
said. "He's one of those individuals in a community that really steps up to
the plate and delivers."
Trussler's nurse practitioner, Allison Sain Chumley and some of the other
staff members from his practice pitched in two weeks ago on a Saturday to
get the physicals done. Each child also received a Dr. Jay t-shirt.
"We enjoy doing it," Trussler said. "I played football at that age and I
know how it can be if you have two or three kids.
"Even though we enjoy doing it and donate the money back, we certainly do
appreciate it when those same kids come back with their sprained ankles and
strep throats."

Car Wash tickets have been passed out to players and cheerleaders. Each are asked to sell 4 tickets at $5.00 each to the car wash. It will be Saturday, August 18th from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm. Each team will be required to have 15 people present during their hour block. Schedule is as follows 8:00 - 9:00 - Cardinals 9:00 - 10:00 - Falcons 10:00 - 11:00 - Raiders 11:00 - 12:00 - Giants 12:00 - 1:00 - Vols & Ravens Football 1:00 - 2:00 - Ravens Cheer 2:00 - 3:00 - Eagles |
